An Islanders Perspective

ABOUT THAT BRIDGE.........?

The people, they have spoken, a long long time ago.
The politicians promised, a long long time ago.

Now I hear that they've put off again, what they so long ignored.
I really never thought, that they could keep their word.

The local ones we know and trust, try hard as they can.
But even they seem stymied, by this little clan.

The higher that the office is, the less they seem to do.
All I've heard about their politics, seems sadly to be true.

I guess that the only way, the people will be heard.
Is when we vote again, for those who'll keep their word.

I've prayed for them and wept for them, who high office hold.
Who've taken on the mantle, and left us in the cold.

Shame rests hard upon them, and they can't even see.
Who gave to us a promise, then lied to you and me.

I ask in my many prayers, for justice to be done.
And I can rest assured, I'm not the only one.

So I'll ask those politicians, who've set scruples by the way.
What makes you think the people, won't have the final say?

I know when I vote again, who I won't vote for.
They've lied too much already, I won't let them any more.

THE GAP

There used to be a bridge here, but now it is long gone.
It was once a highway, that many traveled on.

But politics is politics, and each must have his say.
Each had his own agenda, and had to have his way.

Even when the others, had finally agreed.
The few that felt left out, forgot the people's need.

And bickering and crying, stopped what could have been.
What they have done before, they will do again.

It is truly sad, that we depend on such.
Whose vaunted dedication, really isn't much.

Now where there was once a bridge, now there's just a gap.
For all of those responsible, with one hand I will clap.

I'm sure that they'll all hear it, for it will deafen all.
The silence of the people, sign of their downfall.

They've argued and they've blustered, much over the years.
Those who were our hope, became our worst fears.

BRIDGE

The old bridge isn't quite as strong, as it used to be.
Weakened by the tides and storms, in ways we cannot see.
And the time has come and gone, for this span to go.
But people just cannot agree, sometimes much to their woe.
Many thousands travel over, for just a little while.
And when they hear about it, they'll just nod and smile.
But to some this is a lifeline, and of them you don't hear.
'Cause they don't have the numbers, that politicians fear.
They are the very ones, who need this bridge the most.
Who dwell upon the islands, off Carolina 's coast.
They have known a long time, this bridge has seen it's day.
Has served for many years, a most well traveled way.
But time has come a'calling, and these people know.
The sooner it's made new, the sooner we can grow.
All of the elements are there, we just need to agree.
If it don't happen soon, we might be history.
The only way to travel, by boat or by air.
I guess that those who need it, are the only ones who care.
